Funded through Kickstarter, the Alpine Hammock™ is a fast and light, weatherproof, one-man shelter that can be used in any alpine environment.

After 30 days on Kickstarter we successfully raised $42,915 from 362 amazing backers. Currently we’re focusing on the details of starting our business as well as fulfilling our Kickstarter Rewards. Perorders of the Alpine Hammock™ will be live in December. Thanks again to everyone who supported us!

The Alpine Hammock™ is a weatherproof one-man shelter that can be used both as a traditional hammock as well as a traditional bivy.  This clever design is the brainchild of two young engineering grads from Tufts University, Mike Brown and Ryan Stolp, who decided that there had to be a better solution for fast and light traveling in the mountains.  “We had both hiked and climbed with hammocks, bivy sacks, and one-man tents but were dissatisfied with the tradeoffs we had to make between the available options on the market,” says Brown.  So after several rounds of prototypes using bed sheets from the Salvation Army, they’ve created functional prototypes out of waterproof materials and have tested them in both the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

The Alpine Hammock™ hangs at the intersection between hammocks and bivy sacks, yet it provides more versatility than either shelter.  It can be used up in the trees as a traditional hammock.  Then the built in bug net and rain fly can then be zipped up when protection is needed from the elements.  This self-contained design makes the setup/teardown fast and easy while remaining compact and uncomplicated.  There’s no need for additional rain tarps and multiple tie-out points as is seen with most backpacking hammocks.  When traveling above treeline or anywhere in the absence of trees, the Alpine Hammock can simply be used on the ground as a traditional bivy sack, thus providing any serious backcountry traveller  with an ultralight, no-nonsense shelter.

Thanks for dropping in and for your continued support of the Alpine Hammock™!

Happy Trails,

The Alpine Hammock Team
